| Kinases are enzymes vital to cell signaling. While representing
approximately 2% of the human genome, kinases modulate approximately
30% of all proteins, including most major intracellular
signaling pathways. Kinases were formally and broadly adopted
as valid drug targets by pharmaceutical discovery groups
in the 1990's, and are the target of about a third of all
current pharmaceutical discovery efforts. Kinase modulating
drugs – best represented by Gleevec ®, Avastin ®,
and Sutent ®, generated $8.5B in revenue in 2006, with
annual growth rates forecasted in excess of 20%. |
|
| First generation kinase therapeutics has
targeted selected cancers, but kinases have been implicated in over
400 different diseases. |
|
| Future generations of kinase therapeutics will be more
broadly applicable, more effective and with less patient
side-effects. |
